ENROLL AND KEEP A YOUTH IN A COLLEGE
Education changes lives. Yet for many bright and determined young people in Kenya, college admission letters become painful reminders of dreams they may never afford.
The launch of the Enroll and Keep a Youth in College Project is aimed at supporting the disadvantaged youths who have worked hard, qualified for college, and secured admission, but face financial barriers beyond their control. These are young people raised in families living in extreme poverty, with either sickly parents, economically low single-parent households, or orphans who studied hard, passed their exams, and earned a place in a Higher education institution such as a College, TVET or University. Our mission is not only to help them enroll, but also to keep them in College or University for the three(3) to four (4) years required to complete their studies, so that poverty does not interrupt their future.
For the past ten years, I have always encountered such cases of youth. Personally, I have supported the education of some needy young men and women from high school through college/ university, taking care of the tuition fees, accommodation and food, upkeep expenses, stationery, emas and project or attachment requirements. Among those I started with, two students completed their college education last year, while the others are currently pursuing university education and continue to receive support. The need, however, is great. Many students who qualify for colleges and universities still struggle to join because government funding is often not enough to meet all financial requirements for various courses. Students, therefore, depend on the support of parents or well-wishers. For those whose parents are in a position to fund their children's education, complete and graduate, while those without support are forced to defer or drop out with little hope of resumption.
Although the Kenyan government supports education in colleges and universities, funding for first-year students is usually processed and disbursed from October of every year, while students admitted to TVET or middle-level colleges are admitted in May; however, the majority of the Universities admit students in August or September. This leaves a critical gap where students require support for admission fees, tuition, stationery, accommodation, food, and other essential expenses during their first two semesters.
Apart from the students who are already receiving support for their university education, there are other identified deserving beneficiaries, two of whom completed KCSE in 2024, but due to a lack of finances, they could not continue with their studies in Higher Education. They are already admitted to TVET institutions, KMTC to pursue engineering and medical courses, respectively and are expected to join in May 2026. Many others in need are still waiting for admission at the Universities and will be supported with the availability of funding. These are our future professionals, future breadwinners, and future changemakers. Our support can help make their dreams possible.
Every Contribution matters. No amount is too small. Every shilling can become tuition, books, transport, meals, and hope.
Kindly donate and stand with these young people as they work toward a better future.
Together, we can enroll them.
Together, we can keep them in Higher Education.
Together, we can change generations.
